Arts & Crafts

Possessing a confluence of multiple arts and crafts, Gujarat, with its rich heritage of textiles, offers a fascinating spectrum of metalwork, leatherwork and patchwork, to name some. The handblock prints dating back to the 17th century, the popular tie-and-dye technique of Bandhini or Patola, the art of weaving double ikat, existing only in the small town of Patan are just some of the skills that attract buyer and visitor, alike. Other ethereal creations, passed down the ages, include the mirrorwork textiles of Kutch, the backless Kanjri cholis, equally popular among Bollywood and tribals; the exquisite cotton-silk blend of Mashru blouses and skirts and the brocades of Mehsana, reputed to be the finest in all lands.
