The Divine Trail

Given its rich lore of religious ethics, it's only natural that Gujarat has always been renowned for its temples that attract millions of devotees. Somnath is dedicated to Shiva and is the first among the 12 Jyotirlings. Dwarka is supposed to have been sanctified by Vishnu himself, in the form of Krishna. (Recent findings have supposedly revealed Krishna's Dwarka that lies beneath the Arabian Sea.)

Hilltop shrines like Ambaji, Palitana, Girnar and Pavagadh are similarly steeped in legend and celebrated in history. Others like Palitana are known for their architectural splendor. In addition, there are Akshardham, a tribute in stone; Ambaji, the Devi's abode; Dakor, where Krishna relocated himself; Mahudi, where the Prasad must be consumed on the spot and Narayan Sarovar, a hallowed lake.
